Insulation
You are the reason a house costs a hundred dollars a month to cool instead of three hundred. Batts, blown-in, spray foam, and mechanical insulation on pipe and duct. Spray foam in particular is a specialized, certified, well-paid corner of the trade that most people don't know exists.
A day in it
- New build, still open framing. Whole crew, whole house today.
- Batts in the walls first — cut clean, friction fit, no gaps and no compression.
- Foam the rim joist and every penetration. That's where the air actually moves.
- Lunch, then the rig for the attic.
- Blow the attic to depth, check the ruler markers as you go.
- Suit, respirator, gloves the whole time on the foam work.
- Blower door test at the end tells you whether you did it right.
